Pre-Op Instructions

These are general guidelines.  Please follow your doctor’s instructions for your safety.  Please call if you have any questions.   

 

  • Arrive ONE HOUR before your procedure is scheduled, unless otherwise indicated by the facility.
  • You MUST have someone to drive you home after your procedure.
  • NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK after midnight the night before your procedure.  This includes no tobacco, gum, mints, etc.
  • If your procedure is scheduled after 12:00 noon, you may have clear liquids six hours before your scheduled procedure time (coffee approved WITHOUT sugar, cream, or milk).
  • Please notify the office if you are on any blood thinners these include Aspirin, Ticlid, Plavix, Warfarin or Coumadin.  These usually have to be stopped before your procedure.  (Please approve stopping blood thinners with your scripting doctor.)
  • If you are taking Ibuprofen, Duexis, Vimovo, Celebrex, Naprosyn, Advil, Aleve, Mobic, or any other type of Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory (NSAID) drug you must STOP 4 days prior to your procedure.
  • If you are diabetic and take oral medication, please DO NOT TAKE on the morning of your procedure.  If you take insulin, please inform your doctor for further instructions.  Please check your blood sugar the morning of your procedure and report the findings to the doctor.
  • DO NOT STOP TAKING your pain medication, seizure medication, blood pressure medication or heart medication, unless told otherwise by your provider or the Pre-Op RN during your Pre-op call; You may take them with a small sip of water the morning of your procedure.  Please bring your pain medication in the original bottle with you to the facility, as you may need to take one for the ride home.
  • If you are taking any Herbal Supplements, please STOP 5 days prior to your procedure.
  • If currently on Antibiotics, these must be completed as prescribed, and completed for at least 7 days prior to your surgery date.
  • Procedure’s requiring pre-certification please allow 10-14 business days for processing.
  • Procedure’s requiring pre-determination please allow 30 business days for processing.
  • Please contact the office to cancel or change your appointment, canceling less than 24 hours prior may result in a cancellation fee.
